The life in Ravenna is punctuated by a rich calendar of cultural events. Concerts, exhibitions and festivals are just some of the events that take place every year in the city and attract international visitors.

Highlights of the summer are Ravenna Festival, a great international event with an outstanding programme of music, theatre and dance performances; Mosaico di Notte, offering free guided tours to some of the Unesco monuments which remain open until late in the evening; Festival Internazionale di Musica d'Organo, an International Festival of Organ Music held in the Basilica of San Vitale and Ravenna Bella di Sera, that livens up the city centre in July and August.

The month of September dedicates a programme of cultural events to Dante Alighieri with the participation of artists and readers from around the world. In October, Notte d’Oro – the white night of Ravenna – brightens up the city centre with poetry and music, mosaic and mystery from early in the afternoon until dawn. Closing the season, the biennial RavennaMosaico - Biennial of Contemporary Mosaici; GialloLuna NeroNotte, a literary festival dedicated to crime fictions and detective novels and Ravenna Nightmare Film Festival, an international festival of horror movies.

When the year draws to a close, the sparkling Christmas atmosphere shrouds the city with typical products, nativity scenes, Christmas concerts, shows for children and the traditional New Year’s Eve celebrations in Piazza del Popolo.
